In The Splendor Of The Days
Sunday, May 9, 2010
I wasn't planning on posting today.

But, after a beautiful brunch with my family, I came home and sat down at my computer to reply to my wonderful readers who had left messages on my blog during the night as I snoozed.

Which, by the way, I fell asleep watching the always enchanting Betty White, on Saturday Night Live. I only made it through the first skit before my eyes slammed shut, because I am a Partay Queen like that, but what I did see was just fabulous.

One of my readers blogs led me to the blog, The Happiness Project. And what I discovered over there was a treasure trove of wisdom filled with insightful secrets on how to create true happiness in your life.

As I browsed around this amazing site, I found a short film made by the author of the Happiness Project, Gretchen Craft Rubin.

And as I watched the film, I wept.

In the span of one minute, Gretchen captured the essence of motherhood in such a simple, splendid film.

So, for today, I give you, The Days Are Long, But The Years Are Short.

My Mother's Day gift to all my lovely blogging friends who are mothers or waiting to become a mother.

I apologize for the link. She had no embedding codes on her video, but the link will take you right to the film.

Happy Mother's Day to All.

Today's Dooo Ittt "because I'm your Mamma, that's why" Download: The Beatles, "Let It Be".  Truly, truly one of the most magnificent songs of all time. Not so much of a song about mothers, but in my days as a mother, I have found one of my most pivotal roles in their young lives, has been to be their touchstone, their place of safety and comfort, the one who makes it all better—beginning with that first kiss on a boo-boo, to these days where hearts get broken and disappointments have come their way. I am still the one who makes it all better and for that I am eternally grateful.

Let It Be— for mothers everywhere. And a prayer for the turmoil that seems to be encompassing our world right now, that peace can find its way into every man's heart.

Shine Until Tomorrow. Let It Be.

When I find myself in times of trouble, mother Mary comes to me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be
And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me
speaking words of wisdom, let it be

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

And when the broken hearted people living in the world agree,
there will be an answer, let it be.
For though they may be parted there is still a chance that they will see,
there will be an answer, let it be...

And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light that shines on me
shine until tomorrow, let it be
I wake up to the sound of music, mother Mary comes to me
speaking words of wisdom, let it be

Thank you for your dear sweet comment on my blog today. Joann, you're one of my favorite bloggers. I wish you a wonderful Mother's Day and I think it's adorable that you called yourself a Partay girl - passing out during SNL - that is so "me," I had to laugh :)

I posted the Happiness Project button on my blog. Thanks for cluing us in on her site, Joann. That video is a wonderful reminder for all of us to look at life as though we're still children. Thank you for that gift.

And you beat me by a good hour last night! I was sound asleep by 9:30!

Happy Mother's Day!

I saw Finding Nemo last year for the first time because I heard that his mom had died and I didn't want to cry.

Ditto to Dumbo and Bambi and ALL of the cutesy cat and dog movies in the world.

I may not visit that link. I know it is wonderful, but I already cried today when Emily gave me a poem she wrote all by herself and it was written about ME! DUDE! Couldn't she have given it to me before I did my make-up?!

Happy Mother's Day right back at you!!!

Thank you Joann for posting today and linking to that beautiful clip. I am glad this lady did realize that riding the bus really is it. Every day I remind myself that these years with my daughter will go by so fast and when they are gone I will miss them so very much.

I love the last line - the days are long but the years are short. That is such a perfect way to describe it. I shall remember that line.

Glad you had a wonderful brunch, I hope you enjoy the rest of your Mothers Day equally as much too

I do treasure that my toddler will so often throughout the day just say "Mama" out loud. She's not asking for anything or calling me, its like she just wants to check that I'm there. I'm at the blissful stage where I am the center of all of my girls' needs. I love it and I'm enjoying it, sadly knowing it will just fly right by.

Funny post. Thanks for sharing that awesome video.

Sigh...thank you for the wonderful blog recco. That film was absolutely perfect for a day like today. That you said "I"m still the one that makes it all better" resonated with me. I was thinking earlier about the enormous responsibility and blessing it is for us to have that much of an impact on our kids - sometimes with something as little as a hug.

You should have DVR'd that SNL because Betty was remarkable. Even at 89, she has incredible comic timing.

Happy Mother's Day!

Got my U2 concert tickets in the mail yesterday. They will be here in Salt Lake on June 3rd. It will be my third time seeing them. Apparently, they will be filming a concert video at our concert so they will be playing an extra 10 songs. Lucky us, eh?

I had a girlfriend in high school that was fixated on Bono. She could not stop talking about him and that is what eventually led us to break up.

I still love U2 though.
