Did You Know You Don't Wear Heels When Camping, Seriously?
Wednesday, June 23, 2010
Editing Note: The stupid link here in my first sentence is not working because Blogger is
one big SOB. But, towards the end of this very short post, I have some links to Noelle's
blog. Use them wisely.

Today, I have the honor of filling in at my lovely friend Noelle's blog: Because
Nice Matters.

And it does, because she is super nice, I mean super, super nice. She makes me look
like Cruella Deville.

But, not on purpose, because she is nice.

Anyway, Noelle is absent from Blogworld, because she is in the woods, camping.

And after I cried for her and showered her with my condolences, she said the craziest thing.

She said she is going camping because she likes it.

I was all, "You do know you'll have a hard time with your heels in the dirt campy type

And she said outrageously, "I don't wear heels camping."

And I was like, "Oh wow. And you do that on purpose, too?"

And so it seems Noelle thinks that for whatever reason, camping is fun.

I still cried for her.

But, then I wrote her a post, because I love her that much.

And I tried to think of a camping post, but . . .  no.That would be like me posting about my
favorite Miley Cyrus songs. There is absolutely nothing nice I can say about camping.

Or Miley Cyrus.

So, I came up with something as close as I could which is my car top carrier story.

And it is an utter mortification kind of story. Worse than any of the other mortification I
feed you chickies on a regular basis.

So, go head over to Noelle's blog now. Don't be lazy, just click the little thingy and go . . .

Come on, give the girl a break, she's camping!

No download today. It's over at Noelle's blog. Go. Read. Now. And give that girl some love.
Because, nice girls should always finish first.

Oh I love to camp too - just not in the sweltering summer heat.

Have you heard that Jim Gaffigan bit about camping? "Your parents didn't take you camping when you were a kid?" "No, my parents loved me."

Believe it or not, I loved camping with my kids when I was younger. we once camped for 3 weeks...in a tent! And my kids still go camping today, with their kids, although, the younger one rents a motorhome when he goes!

The only camping I've ever done was for medieval events. So you've got the tent and all (modern, thank heavens) but it takes a 4-6 person tent to hold all the gear and stuff you need for a weekend of medieval fun, or at least that's what it took me. Plus a set of collapsible shelves, a battery operated fan and a fold-out cot (later an air mattress).

Only once have I tried to actually normal-camp but I managed to need 4 stitches just from packing and that trip got cancelled since I didn't think I'd be very good putting up a tent when I couldn't lower my left index finger below my heart.

I will head over, but first I have to tell you that blogger is a son of a bitch.

Ate ALL my comments from yesterday. In one bite.

Should we do the WordPress leap together? We'll hold hands while we jump off the cliff, Thelma and Louse style.

Love ya, girlfriend!!

C-c-c-c-camping is how my friend pronounces it because she just can't quite bring herself to say the word.

Every summer, my menfolk pack up their dirt bikes and camping gear and head to the Sierras for a week of riding and camping and Male Bonding. We call it their Annual Pilgrimage to Mecca.

You are too funny. And I don't know very many women that genuinely LIKE camping. I do it to score points with hubs. Period! And just in case you missed it, I wore heels fishing with hubs the other day and he about died.

Discovered you through Noelle and am delighted to now be counted among your followers! :)

I'm heading over to read it now, but first had to tell you that I am not a big fan of camping either. I could maybe do camping in an RV. Maybe...I don't know as I haven't tried it yet...

Anyway, you know I've had my issues with blogger too, but lately it's been quite well behaved for me! (crossing my fingers) I looked at typepad and wordpress, but not that impressed with them either, and it seems like such a hassle to change everything! So I am just holding my breath and keeping my fingers crossed that blogger continues to cooperate with me.

So it's true then. There are people who really do like camping and look forward to it. Bless them.

After the recent hornet, rat and scorpion invasions of our home I have decided that camping in Texas is definitely not for me :-) Brave is the soul who lies on the ground around here is how I view things!

There isn't a single fiber of my being that wants to camp. No way, no how. I'm totally with you on that.

Camping is for people that enjoy being dirty and uncomfortable, neither of which are on my top ten list. I love nature. One of my favorite things to do is go to a restaurant with big windows where I can look out on nature while people wait on me hand and foot. Laying in the dirt, getting bit by mosquitos while cooking my food over a fire...not so much.

Joann, I loved that post! You are an amazing friend! Get famous soon. I am blessing you from here.

Big hug!

I'm on my way to read... just wanted to say "camping schmamping" and blech.

My neice was over this weekend and she wanted to play outside, she looked at me and said "you just stay inside, a bug might get on you."

I love that she knows me.

I love camping [ducking here], and I camp in skirts - not heels, but I do wear skirts most of the time. We camped Memorial weekend, and I posted about it here Camping Fun, just have a look at that shower, ladies; I just know you will be jealous. Ha! And? When we got married out in the country, on this property, we invited everyone that wanted, to camp overnight with us. Quite a few people did. Best. Time. Ever.

HiJo Anne - Just wanted to let you know in case you havan't had the o pportunity to check over at my blog, that I have a give away going right now. It is a $5 gift card to Burger King. Not a big deal to enter, just post what Burger King food you like the best. So if your interested pop on over. I am sponsoring this give away myself. My son manages a Burger King store, so I wonder why I picked that.

What is camping???

(My idea of "camping" is motels with outside doors... and I don't like them one bit!)

I would rather poke myself in the eye with a sharp stick than go camping. Off to read your post.

Heading over now! I will always support someone who doesn't have anything nice to say about lil Miley...

So not a camping fan either. Loved your story about helping your Hubby take the carrier off the top of the car ... and so creatively!

I have always wanted to go camping. But I am afraid once I am out there I will want to leave right away. I have always been more of a resort and pool type of girl.
Thanks for visiting! I'm from SITS!

Welcome to my world. Although camping like me is high end with internet, satellite dish, king-sized bed, microwave, stove, refrigerator, shower, toilet, granite counter tops, to name a few. But still, my house is on wheels. Camping none the less.

LOL I used to love camping....but I always left my heels at home. :)

I haven't been visiting my bloggy buddies much lately...just getting home from the hospital last week, and trying to play "catch up."

I love your blog though and wanted to present you with an award. You can pick it up on my blog when you visit next.

Okay, okay. Despite it going all kinds of against my nature I will click the link and visit the other site. Because you rock and you said so.
The first time J took me camping I ended up crying in a falling down carwash on the side of the road in the middle of a hurricane warning on the cell with my dad who was offering to come pick me up. Except I didn't even know where I was.

You are too funny. I love camping too, we are going next weekend. I do not do the tent thing anymore. We have a travel trailer with all the cool things like a shower, refrigerator, and best of all, blow dryers! But, yes, the heels do stay at home.

Today, we were getting ready to pack our stuff, yes, getting ready to because we never did do it. My four year old does not understand why I want her to wear shorts and tee shirts, she insists on packing dresses. She will be one to wear heels, one day, when she goes camping.

I enjoy camping if it is not terribly hot. A couple of years ago we went camping with both sets of grandparents to Estes Park, Colorado. It was stunningly beautiful...one of our very favorite places on earth.

One morning I came out of the tent very early and opened the back of the Suburban to retrieve some things to start breakfast. I heard chomping right beside me and looked over to see an entire herd of elk in the bushes not more than 5 feet from me! Amazing!

Furry and I share the same feeling about camping; camping is staying in a flat top motel with bad room service. Sleeping on the ground is for bears.
